Behind the Craft: How Our Artisans Shape Marble
The Journey from Quarry to Home
Every Royal Marble Studio piece begins as a raw block at one of our partner quarries in Italy, Spain, Turkey or Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. The block is inspected for fissures and inclusions before being selected for cutting.
Shaping the Stone
Our master artisans use a combination of diamond-tipped saws for rough shaping and handheld grinding tools for precision work. The entire process for a single vase can take between 8 and 24 hours depending on complexity.
The Finishing Process
Finishing is where skill becomes art. Starting with 80-grit diamond abrasives and working up through 200, 400, 800 and finally 3000-grit, our polishers achieve the mirror finish that defines our pieces. A final application of crystalline sealer locks in the shine.
Quality Control
Every finished piece is inspected under directional lighting to reveal any tool marks, pits or surface irregularities. Fewer than 80% of pieces pass our quality control — the rest are returned for rework or repurposed into smaller items.
